EDC stands for English Debating Competition. This is a part of social gathering as the anniversary of English Language Education. This event is held annually, normally in March. But this year, EDC was held in April because we had a lot of holy days. The theme of EDC for this year was “Show Your Power, Splash Your Heat through Your Voice”. This event was conducted in order to persuade the students to love language especially English. The event had ran for about 3 months, and the committees had sent some letters in order to gain participants. All of the participants for this year came from Denpasar, Singaraja, Klungkung, and Gianyar. Totally, there were 45 participants (15 teams). This event was held on 21st and 22nd of April 2018, in theatre room of Languages and Arts Faculty. There was a problem when the committees prepared the event because it was a little bit hard for them to find adjudicators who were available for two days, but they successfully solved the problem. On the first day, there was an opening ceremony, so this event was officially opened by the third dean of Language and Art Faculty. After that, there was a technical meeting for the participants and the adjudicators, then matched them up by lottery in order to know which teams were affirmative and which teams were negative, and continued by launch the motion. Then the participants went to chambers for doing the competition. On that day, there were three preliminary rounds which were ended at 4pm by announcing 8 winners who would run to the next day. In the second day, there were 4 rounds, namely quarter final, semifinal, final, and grand finale. Some of the judges were the lecturers of English Language Education, some of them were not. Indeed, the judges were all in great competence in debating. The system of the competition was same as last year’s system. But the number of the participants were different. There were 16 teams last year, but this year just had 15 teams. This competition has resulted: the 1st winner is SMAN 1 Singaraja, 2nd winner is SMAN 2 Singaraja, 3rd winner is SMAN 1 Blahbatuh, and the best Speaker is Made YuktaIswari from SMAN 1 Singaraja. Finally, the event was closed by Mr. EkaDambayana as the representative of the Head of English Language Education.
