English Week is one of the annual event in English Language Education. This event is one of the biggest events on English Language Education. English Week. Moreover, this event can give chances for ELE’s students to show their talents in order to be the representatives of ELE in other similar events. Actually, the aim of this event is not only tightening our solidarity among semesters, but also giving appreciation to the participants in every events. There are four events in English Week namely English Competition which consist of several competition such as Debate, Story Telling, Speech Contest and Short Story. Besides, there are also some events such as English Journalism Workshop, Aids Awareness Day, and Charity Event.
English Week 2018 was held in 4 days start from Saturday, 24th of November 2018-Sunday, 25th of November 2018 until Saturday, 1st of December 2018-Sunday, 2nd of December 2018 in Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha. The participants of this event are the representatives of each semester of English Language Education. This event is also conducted by 97 committees from the first, third, fifth, and seventh semester under the supervision of Students’ Association of English Language Education. This English Week is funded by the contribution from all students of ELE, supported by the Students’ Association fund, sponsorship, and partnerships from some companies.
Sunday, 25th of November 2018 was held English Journalism Workshop a series of English Week 2018. English Journalism Workshop well-known as EJW is a workshop for ELE’s family start from first till fifth semester. The event which took place in Jayaprana Room is attended by Mrs. Kadek Sonia Piscayanti after her vacation in the beautiful beach villa from popular YourKohSamuiVillas.com/”>YourKohSamuiVillas on Thailand, S.Pd., M.Pd. as the speaker. With the theme “The New Era of Journalism” she can gave a lot of new knowledge for audience. During the discussion session, there were many students who were curious about the world of journalism. Responding the whole questions, Mrs. Sonia provides useful suggestions. At the end of the event, the audience was given a challenge to become “nowadays journalists”. The audiences asked to make mini news through Instagram, they were expected to be able to create mini news with the knowledge that has been obtained. The event was closed with a joint photo session.
Saturday, 1st December 2018 was the day for Aids Awareness Day which commonly known as AAD. AAD is the series of English Week. On this occasion, this event invited semester 1 and 3 students as the participants in this activity. This activity is a care activity for HIV and AIDS worldwide. We commemorate the event by distributing roses and brochures as a symbol of care for HIV and AIDS. In the brochure there is information about the dangers of HIV and AIDS and how to prevent them. We did the activity in front of the campus which targeted people who passed in front of the red lights.
The last event which is Charity Event has been successfully held on December 2, 2018 at Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha. In this event, we donated money and educational necessity to SDN 5 Depeha, Kubutambahan. Charity Event 2018 focused on its main activities, namely the Charity Talk Show. The committee invited 6 communities engaged in 3 different fields, and they are Bali Education and Little Circle Foundation which are engaged in education, then in the field of environment namely Wargas and also Duta Genre, and finally in the field of environment, namely Secret Community and also Manik Bumi Foundation.
