Ni Luh Suweni is one of English Education Department students. She came to the Department one day to inform about her participation in the National Future Educators Conference, held by Youth Educators Sharing Network. This event was conducted from 25th – 26th October 2014, having a theme of “Youth and Post 2015: Developing Indonesia’s Best Path for Sustainable Acceleration.” This event was periodical, focusing on emerging issues in the global and especially Indonesian context. The theme was taken from the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) 2000 – 2015 from the United States (UN) which are still ongoing at the moment. Therefore, the “Post 2015” focus is crucial to make the MDGs sustainable.
The Speakers of this Conference are:
- Mr. Shahbaz Khan from UNESCO of UN (MDGs to Beyond 2015)
- Nurvitria Mumpuniarti Kristofikova from International Labour Organisation (ILO)
- Khresna Aditya (Education Activist)
- Eny Rofiatul (Education Activist)
- Olivia Herlanda (Pencerah Nusantara: President’s Representative of MDGs)
All the representative from 34 provinces bring a project covering the four sub-topics (Social, Economy, Well-Being, and Nature) to presented on the second days.
Ni Luh Suweni and her friends acted as the representatives of Bali presenting the social-education project entitled “Gold Coin.” This project is about collecting coins for helping school to motivate the elementary students by making kid’s events. For example, coloring, drawing, story telling competition in the school instead of giving money to the school or student directly.
The good news, from among all participants from all provinces of Indonesia, they were awarded the third place for “Best Project Category.”
Congratulations Suweni and team. We are proud of you. Be the future leader! (Made Hery Santosa)
